According to a survey conducted by certificate authority Sectigo, 40% of 500 senior IT and security leaders feel highly ready for the recurring requirement of monthly TLS certificate renewals, citing existing automated systems.
However, deeper survey responses reveal a different operational reality. Merely 4% of the surveyed leaders reported that their certificate management processes are currently automated.
Furthermore, a significant majority, specifically 61%, indicated that their organization experienced a certificate-related outage or incident within the preceding 12 months.
This data suggests a notable discrepancy between perceived preparedness and actual operational maturity among senior IT and security personnel.
The findings underscore the persistent challenges in maintaining comprehensive oversight of digital infrastructure components.
This situation reflects a broader industry trend where the complexity of certificate lifecycles outpaces current automation levels across many market participants.
